PWSS statement on matters raised publicly
The Parliamentary Workplace Support Service (PWSS) is aware that a complaint about the behaviour of a parliamentarian has been made to the Greens Party as indicated publicly by Senator David Shoebridge, the leader of the party. The PWSS has not, to date, been provided with the letter that is at the centre of media reporting on this matter.
The PWSS has advised the Greens Party of their options in this matter. These include the Leader of the Party referring the matter to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Commission (IPSC) for investigation. Party leaders may also provide complaints to the PWSS and the PWSS CEO can refer it directly to the IPSC. People working in a Commonwealth parliamentary workplace affected by alleged conduct are eligible to lodge a complaint, in writing, directly through the IPSC website or enquiry@ipsc.gov.au. Options available in these kinds of matters are fully outlined in the relevant legislation.
The PWSS is here to support anyone who has worked in parliamentary workplaces. When we know the identities of individuals who have been affected, we will reach out to offer confidential support. We encourage anyone affected to contact our counsellors, who are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on 1800 747 977. People can also text us on 0487 112 755 or email support@pwss.gov.au.
The PWSS does not generally comment on individual cases in keeping with the privacy and confidentiality principles which underpin its services. We are here to work closely with individuals and parliamentary offices to ensure wellbeing and safety at work and we encourage all parliamentarians and their staff to utilise our comprehensive services.
