Mental Health First Aid

The PWSS offers 3 Mental Heath First Aid courses:

• Standard Mental Health First Aid

• Mental Health First Aid for the Workplace

• Mental Health First Aid Refresher

These courses are provided by the PWSS or an accredited Mental Health First Aid instructor.

Standard Mental Health First Aid

The Standard Mental Health First Aid course teaches participants how to provide initial support to another adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.  This course can help you respond effectively to constituents and other stakeholders who are distressed, or communicate a risk of self-harm or suicide.  Upon completion, participants are accredited as a Mental Health First Aider for three years.

The course consists of 3 components:

• Self-paced eLearning (5-7 hours) – this can be completed anytime during the course but must be completed to obtain accreditation.

• Part 1 – 2.5-hour Webinar session. 

• Part 2 – 2.5-hour Webinar session. 

Mental Heath First Aid for the Workplace

The Mental Health First Aid for the Workplace - external sitecourse focuses on providing mental health first aid to colleagues, helping to build a safe, respectful and supportive office culture.

 Delivery: Blended (approximately 4 hours of e-learning followed by a 4-hour facilitated in-person session)

Mental Health First Aid Refresher

Training for current and Accredited MHFAiders to stay up to date with mental health first aid knowledge, skills and information.
